I didn't do any cleaning, but I did manage to feed myself and work on the next Valmai story. It's about five and a half pages long, at the moment, and clocks in at 2,562 words. Almost three full pages are action, which I am moderately pleased by. I sometimes wonder why I'm writing in an adventure setting, when I manage to go several chapters without any bad-assery of any kind... ;-) Never fear. Valmai's bad-assitude is very much confirmed in this segment.

Anyway, five pages is great for one evening's work. I'm feeling really confident about getting this one finished when I said I would (as in, by this weekend), which is swell.

For now, though, I should really try and sleep. I've been having a hell of a time getting to sleep and staying there, lately, and I'm gonna start being a driving hazard if I don't pick up more than four hours a night.

I've been at work for exactly one hour. So far:

I've gotten through the F's in filing, and found three documents which were in the wrong letter slots in the filebox. Yeesh.

I've eaten most of an M&M sugar cookie.

I've obsessed for about half an hour about the exact quality of Emlyn's limp, and various ways of reminding the reader that it exists, in future writing.

I've reloaded my flist and both my active email accounts about a bajillion times.

ARG. There are three more hours of this yet to go!

I hate filing. I may have mentioned that before, but it's still true.

Tell me a story? Ask me a question? Tell me a joke? Anything...

Oh Noes!

I just got home, only to find that there's a colony of ants which seem to be trying to make a home for themselves in my porch. There's a little crack in the concrete under my welcome mat, and it seems that that's enough for them. The trail goes back to a similar hole in the asphalt of the alley, and then on from there, so I'm not sure how big the colony is, really. No clue whether they're just interested in the porch for a short-term thing, or if they're making excavations and picking out furniture.

They don't seem to have gotten into my house itself, yet, which is good. But it's really only a matter of time, if they're that close to the front door. And as much as I'd rather not have a bug infestation of any sort, I'm allergic to ant bites, so I'm especially keen to avoid an ant infestation.

Any good tips for getting rid of an inconvenient ant colony outpost?
