In accordance with my sort-of resolution thingy, I have been reading from my TBR collection. Go me! Also, not buying any new books. Go me some more!

I read (among other things) Primary Inversion by Catherine Asaro, which I liked very much indeed, though the copy I have on my e-reader is full of copy-editing-type errors. Extra or missing words, slight misspellings, etc. Boo. But I got it via the Baen Free Library, and the "free" aspect made it less frustrating than it could have been. When I am allowing myself to buy books again, I'll see about getting my hands on the sequel(s) and hope for better editing.

Another thing I've been doing the past little while is working on a few dolls. I finished two that are clothed in comic book panels - which was really fun to do, though also really sticky - and they're up in my Etsy shop if you want to take a look. Or, y'know, buy one. Please do share links to anything there if you think a friend would get a kick out of 'em, btw. I would love to sell some dolls, not so much for the money (though money is nice) but because I enjoy making them a lot, but I enjoy it even more when someone else gets to have one that makes them smile.

Heeeey guys, what's up? I've been busy, kind of. Reading, writing, teaching martial arts, etc. Also, cutting my thumb open with my super-sharp carving knife - good going, me!

HOWEVER, before I managed to render my left hand essentially useless for about a day (I can type now, though! As long as I remember to only hit the space bar with my right thumb! Wheee!), I did some crafty stuff that I am quite pleased with. New OOAK dolls, w00t! I've put the finished ones up in my Etsy shop, so click over there for pretty pictures and silly descriptions.

I've also covered a lot of jar lids in snazzy paper so that we can have some moderately attractive storage options, but I have not photographed those. Perhaps I will remember next time I have the camera out.

So, I offered to make barbies for friends, and [livejournal.com profile] arkivarie requested a steampunk-style doll. She specifically wanted a Black barbie, which actually was a bit of a challenge because I have determined not to buy any new base dolls (or anything else for ooak) until I can move some of these outta here, but I have actually made so many Black dolls since I stopped actively buying that most of the ones I've got left are the My Scene style. Which seemed wrong for this project. But! Then I found one that had a good face sculpt for it, and hair with bangs, too, which I wanted after I did some research. So yay! Pictures and blithering about my process under the cut:

That's it! I hope you like it, [livejournal.com profile] arkivarie. I'll see how much it'll cost to ship her to you, and then let you know so we can arrange to do that. And then she will be aaaaall yours to pose and play with.

Gnargh, I have been FAILFRIEND this past weekend/week. I am so sorry, friends! I did not mean to flake out on you/stand you up/randomly disappear off the face of the earth! There is something exceedingly odd going on with my sleep patterns, and I have been in sort of an altered state of consciousness, one way or another, for days.

One friendthing I have been win at is cleaning out the closet in the guestroom, in anticipation of visits from friends this summer. Two friends are coming tomorrow for a few days! And then Karen is coming at the end of the month for way, way more than a few days! Wheee!

So, in cleaning out this closet, which is mostly full of Barbies and Barbie-crafting-related supplies, I unearthed my awesomesauce Mary Sues that I put together a while (*cough*liketwoyears*cough*) ago. And I have revived my Etsy store. Free shipping for y'all in the US - this is "I really want to unload these dolls, as awesome as they are" pricing! check it. And tell your friends, if they're the type who'd be amused/interested.

In the interest of moving some of my lovely creations out of the apartment, I have reduced prices on the dolls in my Etsy shop.

Those of you who follow my exploits in Mary-Sue dollmaking might be interested to know that I am currently working on two dolls in particular. A female doll whose name will be Alyx Zero, and a male doll that I have painstakingly painted nipples and raven-black chest hair onto. If you can guess who he is, I shall give you a virtual cookie.

D&D tonight was hella fun, again. I'm running a somewhat complex plot for my players, and seeded several different clues into the encounters today that they could uncover if they did the right things and asked the right questions - and they got them all. I was impressed. Also, RP is starting to come naturally, and Brandy and Heather are developing personalities for their characters. The best interaction was over whether or not they should bury some bodies. They had exhumed some earlier (one of the clues!), and then taken the time to rebury them, but Taliesin didn't want to both with the new set of corpses. Silen wanted to bury them, and she pointed out that they'd done it for the other corpses, and Taliesin was like, well, sure, because we dug them up first. Leaving them out would be rude.

Well, perhaps you needed to be there.

I also worked on homework (eternally) and dolls a bit this week. Here's a preview of one I think I finished tonight (may fuss with the hair a bit more):

One More!

revena: Photo of doll with text: No, really! I swear! Lots of girls have violet eyes! (Andrinara - Eyes)
I finished another doll today, which can be viewed here. I'm pretty dang pleased with myself.

I think I'll be able to refrain from doll blathering for a few days, now, since I don't have any others that are that close to completion.

And now, to eat some dinner!
revena: Drawing of me (OoaK OMG YAY!)
I put the Andrinara doll and Valentina Merlynne (the first of what will no doubt be many, many HP Mary-Sue dolls) up in my Etsy store, complete with photos.

Next in line for completion are the matching improbably colored doll and horse (tentatively named Gwyndylyn and Zwyla), and then I dunno what. I've got lots of ideas, and lots of dolls, so I'm sure something will come together satisfactorily.

In the meantime, I've got to do some dishes. I was hoping that if I ignored them long enough Jameson would spontaneously decide to clean the kitchen, but that plan never really works, because my threshold of mess tolerance is way lower than his. Alas.

But at least if I do the dishes, I'll be able to do some cooking and baking, and that's always fun. I may shift my powers of ignoring to the laundry and see what happens.

P.S. If any of you want to tell friends or flists or whatever about my dolls for sale, I would be very pleased to have you do so.

I finished two more Mary-Sue dolls today! This makes me happy. Unfortunately, by the time I put the finishing touches on them this evening, it was too dark to take good photos. This makes me sad.

But they're still pretty awesome. One of them is Andrinara Zuera Francel III (complete with violet eyes), and I did some fun stuff with a handmade dress for her. I've named the other Valentina Merlynne, and this is her bio:

Valentina was born and raised in the United States, but her astonishing magical talents have recently secured her a teaching position at a prestigious British school for wizards and witches. At the tender age of eighteen, Valentina is much younger (and trendier!) than her new colleagues – but as she shows that she’s their magical equal (or superior!) in every way, this bewitching witch becomes a favorite amongst staff and students alike. The male professors find her particularly enchanting.

I'm in the middle of working on one that will be riding on an aqua-colored horse.

Yes, it's a ridiculous hobby, but I'm sure having fun with it this week!

I think many of you know that I've been working on creating some amusing Mary-Sue dolls for a while. Well, I've finally finished the pair that really inspired the idea, and I'm trying my hand at an Etsy shop. Click here if you want to check it out.

I've got some other projects in the works that will probably go on sale there, including dolls based on characters from Under the Moons of Riadorf. Thrilling, I know!

Aside from playing with dolls and being ill, I've done a lot of reading this weekend. I finished this fantastic book called Born Confused, by Tanuja Desai Hidier, that I will definitely be writing about for the books section on Hathor. I also read Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, and am currently finishing up Fairest, by Gail Carson Levine. I seem to be in YA fiction mode. Anyone have any fabulous recommendations?

I thought you all might like to see a picture of my latest OoaK project-in-progress, a doll of Suravi which will be a gift for Pride High creator Tommy Roddy.

After the Girl-Wonder.org forum thread and [livejournal.com profile] dryponder's meme, I wanted to try putting together a new costume for Supergirl. I can't draw, though - so I did one of my half-assed OoaK dolls, instead!
Here be pictures! )

Pssst! [livejournal.com profile] seeksadventure! Guess what I did today??

I finished rooting Taz's goddamn purple hair, that's what!

So, like, all that's left is styling it and sticking the head on her body, and your dolls are done, baby.

Sweet.

There are pictures of my most recently completed One-of-a-Kind doll project up at [livejournal.com profile] hp_ooak. You can see them in this post, should you desire to do so.

Now I need to finish all the other dolls I've got in the works...

Here's a pic of the Anna doll I've been working on for [livejournal.com profile] seeksadventure (Anna is a character from her original writing). It's big, and yet, fails to show the guns particularly well. Shame!

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] gothy_dork - How's this?

So, I...uh... I kinda bought some Barbies today.

But they are really cool. And I totally had projects specifically in mind when I got them. So that's ok! Right? Right.

But if anyone wants to talk to me about a commissioned doll, that would be swell.

([livejournal.com profile] gothy_dork, we should chat over email about what you want, muse-wise. My email address is in my profile!)

I got a bunch of things done today, and am feeling generally fantastic. Yay!

First, I took care of a ton of laundry, which was v. necessary, and which means that I get to sleep on entirely clean sheets (even a clean pillowcase for my weird wedge-shaped pillow) and under a clean comforter tonight. This is very exciting, naturally.

I also went grocery shopping. Sweet corn was eight ears for a dollar (at Albertsons, for you Tucsonans who want to load up on corn!), and other produce was similarly cheap, so I'll get to eat lots of delicious and relatively healthy meals this week for not much cash. Yayes!

In the middle part of the day, Jimmy took me to a movie (Over the Hedge, which was hilarious), and I took him to dinner, so that was all good, too.

The other other other thing I did today was work on a doll for [livejournal.com profile] seeksadventure, which is coming along nicely. I was mostly picking out clothes, which meant that I was rooting through my big bin of Barbie fashions, and becoming acutely aware yet again of just how much of this stuff I've accumulated.

Now, I've got plans for many of these dolls, and some ideas about how to turn others into eBay-able items, but the fact remains that I've got a ton of fashion dolls, here. I like making them over into gifts for my friends, but that also becomes something of a money-sink, because I get pretty involved with trying to find exactly the right doll and accessories... I can't really afford to say to everyone on my flist "hey, let me make you a doll!", as much as that'd be fun and might help me siphon off some of my inventory.

[livejournal.com profile] moonglows, I think I found your muse! Is this her?

She fits the description... Kinda messy brown hair, flowy dress, coffee fiend, likes the color blue...

Maybe we'd better get together sometime, so that I can give her back to you!
