So, as long-time readers of this journal will be aware, I used to DM a weekly D&D game set in an original fantasy universe (throw-away NPC characters I created for one session of that game eventually turned into Valmai, Emlyn, and Wynn. Craziness!). It was a lot of fun, but after about two years I succumbed to DM-fatigue. I was getting annoyed with most of my players, and the demands that they were making on my time, and it was time for the campaign to come to a graceful close, anyway, so I arranged to take a month's hiatus in order to recharge my Dungeon-Mastering batteries before starting a new campaign.
That was in December. I start to miss gaming on a regular basis, sometimes, but then I remember how many hours I put into encounters every week, and how many phone calls from players about their characters I took, and how often my gaming group would shout and whine when the dice didn't roll their way, and I get over it.
Today, on the way to lunch, Jameson told me that he's going to start GMing a weekly RPG campaign.
"D&D?" I asked.
"No, it's another D20 system," he said. "Only one rulebook, though - it's a lot simpler, low fatality, recurring villains... It's a superhero game."
"And you're going to GM it."
"Yep."
"...Can I play?"
"That's why I'm telling you about it," he said.
I'll have to actually look at the rules before I make a final decision. I am not interested in another huge drain on my time, and if I'm gonna need to do weekly reading to keep up with the game, I'll pass. But if it really is just an opportunity to do some RPing when I'm not in charge - yay!
So what kind of superhero should I be? ;-)
