So, lots of published author types have been a doing a meme lately where they share their novel-writing process.
kphoebe and I thought it'd be fun to write out how we wrote Seen and Spoken, even though we're not, y'know, published author types. So Karen wrote about it, and I reminded her of stuff she forgot, and then she posted it here. Yay!
I might do one for how I wrote the first Valmai book, in a bit. I don't think it'd be a useful thing for people who've already written a novel, or who have a really clear idea about what they're doing, but what I did with Valmai I might be helpful for people who want to write something novel-length, but aren't sure how to get started. Or, for people who know how to get started, but are afraid they won't finish.
I still love the first Valmai book. I love the story, I adore the characters, and now that I've written a novella, another novel, and a bunch of short stories, I can look back and say "wow, that writing is pretty bad!"
But I don't think I would have written those other things without having finished the first novel, so I'm really glad I did it. I think it was an invaluable learning experience.
