I just finished reading Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. I've enjoyed reading and re-reading several of McKinley's young adult novels in the past. They always felt a little removed to me as I read, the way a fairy tale is - not immediate, but not in an irritating sort of way. Reading stories like that is very restful for me.
I picked Sunshine up with a little trepidation, because I'd heard a few people say that they didn't like it nearly as much as McKinley's other stuff. And I can see why, because it's quite a departure from her more familiar style. An awesome departure. At least, I thought so. Man. I don't even know what to say about it right now. I'm gonna let it stew and then write up something for Hathor, probably. But I just wanted to register my "woah" right away.
Woah.
