Necessary Evils

revenaI hate doing dishes, but there is something wonderfully restful about a cleaner kitchen.
I had this sort of vague fantasy of having the kitchen/dining area totally squared away in time to have a (very small) dinner party this month, but I doubt it'll happen. There's still a ton to do, including some more painting, some drilling and hanging of cabinet doors, and dealing with the scary and strangely cavernous spaces under the kitchen counter. Theoretically, they could be fabulous storage. In practice, they are dark, dank and generally gross.
Jameson and I created a very nice pantry out of a pre-fab closet storage unit, and we're thinking about setting up another, shorter piece from the same line as a microwave counter and place to store things like table linens, but for now I need to figure out a way to work it out with some plastic storage units I have saved from my college days (I have one that's very sturdy and has a particle-board top which I think I can repurpose). I've got to get the microwave off the counter, because putting a cutting board on top of the stove in order to make a prep surface for complex cooking is really a pain (literally. I burned myself a couple days ago).
...This is probably up there on the top ten list of Most Boring Posts Robyn Has Ever Made, so I think I'll just stop here and go do some more of those dishes.
