In psuedo-celebration of the whole 83,000 words thing, and also because I am bored, a meme:

Ask any of the characters from any of my stories a question, and they will answer. Possibly even honestly.

It was fun last time. Ask away! (and yes, you can ask more than one. I'm filing. I have plenty of time on my hands in which to mentally compose good answers)

Can you describe the worst day you ever had?

It turned out well, but the worst day I ever had was definitely the day that I got caught. I spent the whole day hiding under a car, waiting for my mom to come back for me, but she never came. I was really hungry. I cried and cried, but she never came back. Then I could smell that there was some food nearby, so I went to look. It was hard to eat, but it was a little soft, and I could chew it if I worked at it. I was really hungry, so I ate it. I was still eating when all of a sudden, someone huge swooped down on me and grabbed me with a pair of shorts. I tried to get free, and clawed and struggled. He cursed a lot, but he didn't let go. He stuffed me in a box with a wire grate on the front. Another cat stared at me for hours.

The guy who had grabbed me talked with some other people about what to do with me. He said he was going to take me to the Humane Society, or maybe the Hermitage. One of the people (later I found out it was Robyn) said that if he did that, they would kill me, because I was sick. That was true - I couldn't see out of one of my eyes, because something was wrong with it. The guy said that he couldn't have another cat. Robyn said that she couldn't, either, but she took me anyway.

I spent the night all alone in her bathroom. There was another cat (Xerxes) outside the door who kept calling out to me, but I ignored him. It was very scary. I didn't know what would happen to me.

It all worked out alright in the end, but that day was pretty awful.

Wow - that sounds horrible! I'm so glad everything turned out OK and that Robyn let you live with her.

For Valmai's Mom:

Were you surprised to find out that your daughter was forced into a life-bond situation because of having been involved in some sketchy activities? Have you ever been disappointed with her?

I was very surprised, because I thought she had more sense than that. Then again, what else could she do, once she was in Valeria? She had some skills - she could read and write, and she knew how to use that hammer - but most of what she had learned growing up would be useless in the city. A miller's daughter doesn't learn how to work in an inn, or how to get a job as a secretary or clerk.

Really, I'm just glad that it wasn't worse. She could have ended up a prostitute, or bonded to someone who treated her terribly. She could have ended up dead.

Valmai is so different from my other daughters. I never really expected the same things of her. I've often wished that she would make different choices - honestly, taking up with Gavin? Couldn't she see that it was all a competition, for him? - but she has never dissapointed me. I don't think she ever will. She's a good girl.
