Mom: Can I borrow the Joy of Cooking I gave you for Christmas? I want to check how long it takes too cook a goose.

Me: Sure. And the answer is "longer than you think."

Mom: *reads* *mutters* *counts on fingers, and makes strange, goose-semaphore-type signals* Three hours. So if we want to eat at six, we should put it in at three.

Me: There's no way that the goose will be done in three hours. You have never cooked a goose in three hours in your life. You should really put it in now.

Mom: It's only noon. I don't want Christmas Dinner at three.

Me: But it's gonna take like five or six hours, not three.

Mom: Well, I guess I could put it in a little early. It's hard to overcook a goose. But I still think it'll be done in three hours.

Me: Why don't you put it in at, like, one thirty? Or maybe two?

Mom: Okay.

Mom, at three: *begins preparing goose*

If we actually sit down to eat at six, I will ingest a chapeau.

ETA: Here's a pic of me wearing some of my Christmas clothes, using my graduation camera, and transferred to my laptop via the card reader I just got. I'm standing in my mother's bathroom, btw, if anyone is curious. God, that bathroom is nice. The tub is a thing of great beauty.

AHA. That's the way of the world. I'm flying home tomorrow morning, and I'll have a whole week to remember why I'm glad I moved to Ohio.

Three hours for a goose.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Um, eat snacks between now and the eventual dinner?

Oh man, yeah. I've already eaten the novelty snacks that came in my stocking this morning... And Mom's frying the goose giblets in order to make gravy right now, and she says I can have some of them when they're cooked.

Hehe... Goose liver is even tastier than chicken liver, you know!

I JUST ATE THE LIVER. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I WOULD DO IT AGAIN, GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY.

My mother had liver for dinner the night she went into labor with me. Perhaps this is all somehow related?

Thanks! The cardigan came from J. Jill, I know. Not sure where Mom got the tank top.

Oh man, that tub is big enough that I can actually get fully submerged in it. Beautiful.
