Ametrine/Emlyn

Another meme response, this one's for
gimini_chick_in.
The first kiss was always awkward, Ametrine knew. Or at least, that’s what Callia said, and if anyone knew anything about it, it’d be Callia.
Ametrine glanced at Emlyn, who was studiously bending over the stack of parchments – inventory lists, mostly, from some of the more profitable shops under House Bedros auspices - that Zander had given them to look over. She liked his face in profile. He had a strong jaw, she thought, and the sweep of his dark lashes against his pale cheek compelled a certain interest. Ametrine shifted restlessly in her seat, contriving to move a little closer to Emlyn along the bench they were sharing. Emlyn’s long-fingered hands were as pale as his face, a delicate blue tracery of veins visible below the skin just above his slender wrists. Ametrine reached for a fresh sheet of parchment, executing a carefully planned movement that brought her fingertips into contact with the back of Emlyn’s hand briefly, so lightly that it could have been an accident.
“What are you doing?” he murmured.
“Nothing,” Ametrine said, at once. She could feel heat rising in her face.
“Nothing?” Emlyn repeated, turning to face her.
“No,” Ametrine admitted. “Not nothing. I was… Well… I was just thinking… If we’re to be married…”
Emlyn smiled. He reached out, ran his fingertips slowly, deliberately across the back of Ametrine’s hand. She shivered.
“Of course,” he said. “Why wait?”
Callia had been wrong. Aside from the edge of the table digging into her back as she leaned against it, Ametrine thought, moments later, it wasn’t really awkward at all.
