New Valmai Hammerhand story posted!

Big props go out to [livejournal.com profile] kphoebe, who named Midara, the Goddess of Knowledge. For any aspiring deity-namers out there, I could still use suggestions for the God of Law, the Goddess of Art, and the gods of Punishment and Reward. And the Goddess of Joy. And probably a bunch more I haven't thought of yet.

As always, feel free to comment. Here, there, anywhere. I always love to hear what you think.

Fourteen days out from Valeria, on the fringes of a deep wood, at dusk, they were ambushed as they rode past an old, tumbled-down stone wall.

ETA: 25 seems like a pretty land-mark number. Just to see, I copy-pasted all of the Valmai stories into a new word file, with their titles but without any introductions or comments. The file is 91 pages long. It is 46,091 words. I wrote the first story on September 7th, not really intending to do another. I had it half in mind that if I wanted to continue the tale, I'd swap viewpoints, and write from Wynn's perspective, and Emlyn's, and so on. That was just before Valmai reached out and grabbed me by the throat, I guess. And she still hasn't let go. Four months and over 46,000 words... Phew! What a ride it's been! I hope I've got another 46,000 in me, yet.

God of Law = Xavier
Goddess of Art = Clarion
Gods of Punishment and Reward = Vald and Mantas
Goddess of Joy = Eloma

Mostly ripped from my old DnD games, but I think they sound appropriate, don't you?

Those do have a nice sound to them... I'll keep them in mind. Thanks!

Strangely, I've been getting "Hebrew word of the day" for the last two weeks or so, and Friday was the word for Judge. "Severe judge" was translated Hamor Shofet...so when you said God of Law I thought of Hamor (which actually means severe, but that kind of goes along with the law, huh?)....Shofet actually means Judge, but that sounds too Jewish, but you could play with it and make Eftesh or something.....? Just ideas.....

Thanks for the suggestions... I used a similar process in coming up with Epht's name, actually. I thought of things that described the character, and then fooled around with sound values until I got a name I liked.

Yay, Valmai #25! It's really hard to write a scene from the perspective of someone who isn't there. Good job with that. It does let us know that Valmai and Ametrine make it, but it still leaves Emlyn's fate a mystery, which is the real question anyway. Still lots of anticipation left! :-)

Yes, I did that exactly on purpose. Because I am a bad person. Who wants to make all of my readers very, very anxious. Bwahahaha!

I don't know why I'm spamming you with more Hebrew words-of-the-day, but when I got this one I thought of you and your god/godess-naming. This is the law one again... It sounds decidedly less Jewish too. Sorry I'm not getting Greek word of the day--I guess that would be more appropriate....? Ugh--it's late. I'm delerious.
