Mine is a shapeshifter. Sometimes he's a very handsome young man, with dark hair, pale skin, and an aquiline nose. His eye color shifts from brown to blue to green, and the shape of his jaw changes a lot, but he's always just a bit skinnier than is probably really healthy. When she's a woman, she's much plumper - downright curvy, in fact. She usually keeps her hair in a very sensible short haircut, though it's often an outrageous color. She likes blue, but she has her bright red and orange phases. Her eyes are grey, and she's often got wings that are painted up to match her hair.
My muse is something of a nudist. He often doesn't wear a shirt at all, and she has been known to wander around in just her underpants. It's not about titillation... She's just more comfortable in her own skin. Plus, it gets hot at my house, and muses are notoriously sensitive to temperature. When it's cooler, he likes to wear shapeless tunics and trousers made of expensive fabrics, though occasionally she dresses up a little, with long, full, linen skirts and blouses.
My muse also enjoys cloaks and capes and other garments with a nice theatrical swish to them. He's fond of spinning around dramatically, or standing facing into a stiff breeze, so the fabric will ripple in an appealing way. She's always heavily armed, of course, favoring small knives, though he'll also branch out into swords and polearms, when the mood strikes her.
So what does your muse look like?

Date: 2006-04-11 05:51 pm (UTC)I have a few characters that like to lurk and grumble and brood. And smoke, gods I hate it when they smoke. But not so much the muse.
I think she's been phoning it in for years.
"M" for "Muse"

Date: 2006-04-11 06:47 pm (UTC)Another muse is a tall, thin woman with curly long brown hair, who's very assertive and ballsy, but also a good listener. She listens to everyone panicking, then tells them when she's heard enough, and issues the best available solution. Her forte is plot, particularly when it gets sticky. She's also got a great technique when I'm stuck: she keeps breaking the next step into smaller and smaller steps until I'm able to take at least one. There's always a way out of any plot jam with her. She tends to wear brown, russet and black, and all her clothes are very trim, but not overly fitted. Very practical, but with a lot of beautiful patterns and textures. She's not a traditional beauty, but she is beautiful.

She tends to be a bit angsty and melodramatic, but very loyal and dedicated to whatever she's doing. She helps with my character development and dramas (both my internal ones, and the plot dilemmas). She's petite, stronger than she looks, brown shoulder length hair, likes her reds and her neutral colours, always very elegant.
And when they're both around. It's all I can do to keep up with their dialogue. And they have some stunners sometimes. I really don't know what I would do without those two...

Date: 2006-04-14 08:28 am (UTC)The other muse is a lovely black woman, older than me, and with changing hair colour (usually purple when she's happy). She also has the best dress ever. It's very earthy looking, scoop neckline and bell sleeves. The skirt is very full but when she pulls it up she has different colour slips underneath. The colours also shift depending on her mood but red and purple tend to be her favourite (I know I've messed up if it's yellow). She also like to snark at me and pace a lot. You have to love her though, she makes writing fun...and she can kick man!muses butt.
