Stayed home from work this morning (this entire day?) in order to sort out the stupid swamp cooler situation. Isaac came over and gave us a professional opinion and some instructions, and then Jameson and I went to go and buy some new pads for it and so on, and he installed them when we got back.

And then the fan stopped working.

The best part of this story is that I've been asking my father/boss/landlord (possibly tripling up on those relationships = a bad idea?) to call Jack, the guy who usually does this stuff for us, for a couple weeks now, but he kept forgetting. So finally I asked him yesterday if I should just ask Isaac to do it, since Isaac knows how to do the swamp cooler thing and I'm dying from the heat. Dad thought that was a swell idea.

"You don't think Jack will be offended or anything if we get someone else to do it, though?" I asked.

"Nah, of course not," Dad said. "See if Isaac can do it right away, and if he can't, you can call Jack, but he won't care."

So right in the middle of this whole thing with Jameson outside with his head in the cooler, and me in here writing this entry, my phone rings. Guess who it is? Arlynne at the office, saying Jack is there doing some maintenance stuff, and he's wondering why he hasn't been called to take care of my cooler yet!

There was some back and forth with Arlynne in the middle, and then Jack got on the phone with me directly, and I explained what had happened, and... Well, I don't think he's broke up about it or anything, but I'm pretty sure that Dad was wrong about him not minding a bit.

Argh.

And now the fan's working, but it sounds like it's going to give out at any moment.

Why didn't I move into an aparment building with a maintenance staff and a landlord who isn't related to me, again?

ETA: Yup, fan belt just broke. Great.

Bummer- dude. We've learned the hard way to keep extra cooler parts in the shed for these incidents....belts, pumps, pads... When ours breaks, it's 75 miles to the nearest hardware store. I hope somebody gets you a new belt quick! Meanwhile, try bag of frozen peas to the forehead. :-)

Hope you can get that sorted out soon; it's been pretty hot lately! (though I think today might be cooling off a little bit... or maybe it's just me)
