I got an email notification today for a comment that someone left on the last chapter of Valmai I, over on my blog. I was sort of startled, because it was someone I didn't know, and as a consequence, I had had no idea that this guy was reading my story. It was that pleased sort of startled, of course. He said that he had enjoyed it, and what could be nicer to hear from a stranger than that he liked your work? But it did surprise me a little bit, as it always does when I get a comment on my writing from a stranger.
I happened to mention it to
kphoebe, and she talked about how odd it is for her when she suddenly gets comments on a Hermione/Draco story that she wrote months and months ago. I pointed out that in her case, those stories tend to get recced pretty frequently, though, which accounts for some of that, and she jokingly noted that she can always tell when she's been nominated for a new award, because she'll get a sudden spurt of reviews. And then the conversation moved on, as they do.
Later this evening, I happened to be browsing around over at
crack_broom, and what do you think I saw? That's right... One of
kphoebe's (excellent, beautiful) stories had been recommended last month. What a coincidence, that we happened to just be talking about that! I thought to myself, and went to check my Yahoo! mail (which I really only do every few days).
And what should be waiting for me in my inbox? Notifications for two reviews of "Necessary" over on Ashwinder. I don't think I've had a new review for that story in over a month, maybe even two, and never two within a week since it was first posted.
Seriously... Could the coincidence chain get any weirder?
Oh, I forgot to mention, speaking of coincidence... It seems that the guy who commented on the last chapter of Valmai I went to the same college as my ex-boyfriend (and good friend),
graynonymous, whose last name is the same as my friend
sonorajinn's, whose girlfriend also went to Case Western Reserve (and almost certainly knows the guy who left the comment).
So there you go. The world? Weird.
