In other news, it was too overcast today to get any painting done, which is mostly what my in-progress OoaK projects need, so I did something else on my "omg can't take any more typing!" breaks.

I dyed some merino wool yarn with kool-aid. And the results were not too shabby! Here's a pic:

Flavors used included lemon-lime, pink lemonade, black cherry, and some kind of blue raspberry lemonade something. I like the look of the black cherry the best, but the lemon-lime came out the most evenly colored (I used smaller skeins for that one, which probably made the difference).

Anyway, it was fun, I've got yarn and kool-aid left over to keep experimenting with, and I think I'll be able to knit up some really interesting scarves from it. Wheee!

kool-aid eh? They look good. My question is, how does it wash?

Should be on par with pretty much any other hand-dyed yarn. They rinsed completely clear and had no loss of color right after dyeing, and I anticipate nothing worse than maybe a gradual fade after multiple washings.

That's incredibly nifty. I think I may have to keep that in mind the next time I'm wool shopping and I want some cool colours. They really did come out very well.

Lovely! I especially like the blue raspberry, of course, but the black cherry does have a nice richness to it.

Maybe I'll make you something from the blue raspberry. Would you wear a wool scarf?

I would indeed wear a wool scarf, especially if this winter is as cold as some of the people say it will be because of the hot summer. Plus I may move somewhere with an actual hard winter next year, which will be a shock to me.

I love that black cherry one too!
I think that the green would make a really interesting colour shift when it's knitted up- it's just the slightest bit more green in spots... :)

*nod* Now I just need to think of a project I want to work up in slightly variegated neon green...
